The programme consists of two modules.
Module 1: Assisting in daily walk around checks and changing of the reeving system
Credit: 1 ECTS
Module 2: Assisting in drawing the lift plan and understanding the lift plan
Credit: 1 ECTS
Learners will gain knowledge of:
Tower crane components and functions.
Daily crane inspection procedures and safety requirements.
The reeving system and its role in load control.
Crane operation, lift plans, and rigging equipment.
Health and safety regulations, PPE use, and hazard identification.
The assistant operator’s role in crane setup, lifting, and dismantling operations.
Learners will develop skills to:
Assist in daily walk around checks and changing the reeving system safely.
Support crane setup, rigging, and lifting operations.
Follow lift plans and assist in drawing them accurately.
Maintain and report on crane and equipment status.
Communicate effectively with crane operators, supervisors, and team members.
Learners will gain knowledge of:
Key components and safety features of tower cranes.
Daily inspection procedures and checks for defects, wear, or damage.
Reeving system types, assembly, disassembly, and tensioning.
Learners will develop skills to:
Conduct daily crane checks.
Assist in changing and testing the reeving system.
Apply safety procedures and follow supervisor instructions.
Learners will demonstrate competence in:
Performing safe, supervised crane checks and assisting with the reeving system.
Complying with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Communicating effectively with the crane team.
Learners will gain knowledge of:
Basic crane operation and lifting principles.
Lift planning, load calculations, and site layout interpretation.
Rigging, slinging, and safety procedures during lifting operations.
Learners will develop skills to:
Assist in preparing and executing lifts according to plans.
Apply hand signals and communication protocols with crane operators.
Support safe load handling and rigging operations.
Learners will demonstrate competence in:
Assisting with lifts safely under supervision.
Following lift plans accurately.
Applying health, safety, and environmental standards on-site.
Applicants should be able to read & write in English.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or over.
Completion of the MQF Level 2 Award in Understanding Health and Safety – Construction, or equivalent.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be applied for applicants lacking formal academic qualifications.
