Paediatric BLS/AED and Emergency First including Choking
This course is designed to equip individuals with the essential skills to respond effectively to medical emergencies involving infants, children, and young adolescents. The course focuses on paediatric Basic Life Support (BLS), the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and managing choking emergencies. It provides participants with the knowledge and confidence to perform life-saving techniques in emergencies involving children and infants, both at home and in professional settings.
By combining theoretical instruction with practical, hands-on training, participants will learn how to handle a wide range of medical emergencies, ensuring they can act quickly and confidently to provide immediate care until professional help arrives.
What You’ll Learn:
- Paediatric BLS (Basic Life Support): Learn how to perform CPR on infants, children, and adolescents, including chest compressions, rescue breaths, and adapting techniques based on the child’s size and age.
- Paediatric AED Use (Automated External Defibrillator): Understand how to use an AED safely and effectively for children and infants, including how to adjust settings and perform CPR with or without an AED.
- Choking Emergencies: Learn to recognize the signs of choking and how to respond appropriately to choking incidents in infants, children, and adolescents using back blows, chest thrusts, or abdominal thrusts.
- CPR Techniques for Children and Infants: Master the techniques for performing CPR on children and infants, including the correct compression depth, rate, and number of breaths.
- Basic First Aid for Paediatric Emergencies: Understand how to manage other paediatric emergencies, such as cuts, burns, fractures, allergic reactions, and seizures.
- Wound Care and Management: Learn the best practices for treating wounds, including cuts, abrasions, and burns in children and infants.
- Shock Management: Gain knowledge on recognizing and managing shock in paediatric patients, including the signs and symptoms to look for and how to respond effectively.
Course Equipment:
Participants will engage in practical, hands-on training using the following equipment:
- Paediatric CPR Manikins: For practicing CPR techniques on infants, children, and adolescents, including chest compressions and rescue breaths.
- AED Training Units: To practice using an AED as part of the CPR process for children and infants.
- Choking Simulation Models: To practice choking management techniques on children and infants.
- First Aid Kits: Learn how to use the contents of a standard first aid kit to treat common injuries and medical emergencies in children and infants.
- Bandages and Dressings: To practice wound care and bandaging techniques on children and infants.
- Fracture and Splinting Kits: For learning how to manage and treat fractures in paediatric patients.
