Paediatric First Aid

This course aims to equip parents, caregivers, teachers, and healthcare professionals with the essential skills and knowledge needed to respond to medical emergencies involving infants and children. This course focuses on paediatric-specific first aid techniques, including how to manage common childhood injuries and illnesses, as well as how to provide life-saving care in emergencies such as choking, burns, or seizures.

This comprehensive course combines theoretical learning with practical, hands-on experience, ensuring participants can confidently respond to a range of emergencies involving children. The skills gained can make a crucial difference in providing effective care before professional medical help arrives.

What You’ll Learn:

• Paediatric CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation): Learn the techniques for performing CPR on infants, children, and toddlers, including chest compressions, rescue breaths, and how to adapt these techniques based on the child’s size and age.
• Choking First Aid: Understand how to identify and respond to a choking child, including performing back blows and abdominal thrusts for older children, and chest thrusts for infants.
• Injury Management: Learn how to manage common childhood injuries such as cuts, bruises, sprains, and fractures.
• Burns and Scalds: Know the correct steps to take when treating burns or scalds, including how to assess the severity and provide first aid.
• Seizures and Medical Emergencies: Understand how to recognize and respond to seizures, allergic reactions, asthma attacks, and other medical conditions common in children.
• Head Injuries and Concussions: Learn how to identify signs of head trauma and what to do in the event of a suspected concussion or more serious head injury.
• Poisoning and Ingestion of Harmful Substances: Learn how to respond when a child has ingested or been exposed to a toxic substance, including common household poisons.
• Basic Wound Care and Infection Prevention: Understand the proper steps to take when cleaning, dressing, and treating cuts and wounds to prevent infection.

Course Equipment:

Participants will engage in hands-on training using:

• Paediatric CPR Manikins: For practicing infant and child CPR, including chest compressions, rescue breathing, and airway management.
• Choking Simulation Models: To practice correct techniques for relieving choking in infants and older children.
• First Aid Kits: For training on how to use essential items in a first aid kit to manage common injuries and illnesses.
• Burn and Wound Care Materials: To demonstrate how to dress and treat various injuries.
• Medical Emergency Simulators: For practicing emergency response in controlled, realistic scenarios.

The course will take place at our well-equipped training facility: PG Offices, Ħal-Farruġ Road, Luqa, LQA 3078
